Something to keep in mind at this time of year (and all other times of the year) while laying the base of your fitness for the season - the golden rule of triathlon training.
Healthy --> Consistency --> Performance
Great performances don't just happen, and they don't come from one or two key workouts. You can't perform without consistent training. And you can't be consistent without first being healthy. That means staying injury-free, training smart, and maintaining proper recovery and nutrition habits (remember I'm your source for tips on snacking and awesome music to listen to while you have your legs up between workouts).
That's not my idea by the way, I'll credit James Loaring and Craig Taylor on the simplest and best advice any coach can instill in their athletes. My moment of borrowed wisdom comes at a fitting time as I'm sick and can't train. When I can't train, I talk about training. I also come up with this season's race schedule. Pencil in where you can see me on the podium this summer:
May 2 Ironman 70.3 St Croix
June 6 Woodstock Tri
June 13 Binbrook Tri
June 26 Coteau-du-Lac ITU Pan Am Cup
July 31 Junior/U23 Provincial Championships
Aug 22 Kelowna ITU Pan Am Cup/Elite Nationals
Aug 28 Cobourg Olympic Tri
Nov 13 Ironman 70.3 World Championships (pending qualification)
